ACADEMY AWARDS

  • "THE RAINS CAME" TCF 1939 Best Special Effects.
    First year for this category. Among the other nominees were "GONE WITH THE WIND", "UNION PACIFIC" and "THE WIZARD OF OZ". The Academy stopped using these smaller tablet awards after WWII when full size statues were given for all First Award Winners. Many traded in these older obsolete ones for the newer, taller statues.

    A marvelous WWII color film with Tyrone Power about submarine duty. Ty's last film before he reported for active duty.

  • "MY FAIR LADY" WB 1964.Best Achievment in Sound Recording.
    Presented that night by Steve McQueen to honor WB's use of six track stereo in recording for this film.
