This full size, hand painted prop piano, appears in this film noir classic in Judith Anderson's apartment near the beginning, when Dana Andrew's character meets the three main suspects in 'Laura's' murder. Once a real piano, the Fox prop department has removed the harp and steel strings and replaced it with a much lighter assembly as well as removed the pedals and stem. It is decorated with villas and sailing scenes. It measures eight feet long and nearly six feet high, with the cover open, and is actually made in two pieces, the top part resting on a "table" with the legs. It is marked "20th Cent. FOX" as well as with the inventory numbers, in succession, for the two pieces. It was also used in "CALL ME MADAM" where Ethel Merman sings to George Sanders who "plays" the piano in the Embassy ballroom.
