"EDGAR" MYSTERY WRITERS OF AMERICA AWARD. This ceramic 9" bust of Edgar Allen Poe is the coveted statue awarded to the finest book, play or film of the year by the MWA. Since it's first appearance in 1945 it has become nearly as important as the Oscar is to film for this genre. None of the awards is inscribed as to recipient but names the year. The year 1961 is significant in that only six(!) of these were awarded in all categories. It is marked with the letter "B" on the inside which may be indicative of the winner. The only person whose name uses that letter is Robert Bloch who won for "PSYCHO" that year in the BEST FILM category so it could have been his. A truly rare piece not often seen available. Check out "SLEUTH" which features one in the film and went on to actually win one that year as well!
