A 15 inch composition figure of Kellerman, the Million Dollar Mermaid, done in 1909 and taken from a life size marble statue done to commemorate what was then considered the 'perfect woman'. The images of the full sized statue are from her own booklet, issued in 1910. Her life story is the subject of the 1952 MGM film "MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID" starring Esther Williams. Miss Kellerman was a championship swimmer and the originator of the one piece bathing suit, an act that got her arrested in Boston when first worn there. She went on to market this line of swimwear, under her own name, and became a silent screen film star performing in a series of water related epics as well as appearing nude in some of them.
